Combat Chaplain: A 30-Year Vietnam Battle
Published in Hardcover by University of North Texas Press (April, 2001)
Author: James D. Johnson
Average review score:

Honest, candid, informative account
Combat Chaplain: A Thirty-Year Vietnam Battle is the gripping story of Chaplain James D. Johnson. This military chaplain accompanied his men on their daily combat operations -- often against the orders of his superiors. Here is the story of a battlefield ministry complete with hot landing zones, rice paddies, knee-deep in mud, on and off ships. From baptisms in the muddy Mekong River to beside comforting of frightened, wounded, dying boys, Combat Chaplain is the story of eight and a half months of front line service administering to the spiritual needs of an active combat unit during a time when ninety-six of them would be killed and hundreds more would be wounded. This honest, candid, informative account is enthusiastically recommended to military buffs and students of the American involvement in the Vietnam War.

Come Looking
Published in Paperback by Washington Writers Pub House (March, 1995)
Author: Dan Johnson
Average review score:

Come Looking
Dan Johnson takes the world's crispest details and most telling moments and whispers them to us. Poetry in this collection, which was the winner of the 1995 Washington Writer's Publishing House prize, combines Dan Johnson's ability to be quiet and compelling simultaneously. It's a knack of this poet to zero in on the almost disregarded and elevate it to our heightened attention. Some of my favorite moments come in the prose poems, especially "Going Blind," in which the poet asserts for us: "For days now the sun has been slipping into a shroud and then shrugging it off." Dan Johnson's poetry continually slips into shrouds and then shruggs them off.

Wonderful
i'm a language teacher at a teachers'training college in B.A.,Argentina.I learnt to write through the outstanding ability of the author to develop the grading of the activities displayed in the book almost twenty years ago. I've been trying to find a book like this one ( so as not to feel only past times werer better) for my student, but my search was completely unsuccessful! I have the book, but hopefully, I'd be delighted to get the key to exercises and guide to the teacher. They are not available at all in the bookstores! Could you help me?. Hey! I'm not that old! Just 38. Thank you, and my humble congratulations to the author

Complete Idiot's Guide to Short Workouts (Complete Idiot's Guide To...)
Published in Paperback by Alpha Books (17 November, 2000)
Authors: Deidre Johnson-Cane, Alpha Group, Jonathan Cane, and Joe Glickman
Average review score:

Great book to help rid yourself of excuses not to excersize.
I currently have a small library of workout books and had gotten to the point where I felt like there weren't any new books out there that I need to add to my collection. This one I checked out of the library out of curiosity. My husband and I were so impressed with the organization and information in this book we've decided to buy a copy for ourselves. We had gotten to a plateau in our workouts. We were working out three times a week and just could find any more time to go to the gym. Using some of the workout in this book we've been able to fit in one or two more workouts per week and that has made all the difference in our weight control program. This would be a good book for someone who is ultra-busy but still has in interest in maintain their good health.

Concise Encyclopedia of Wild Flowers

Authors: C. Pierpoint Johnson, C. Pierpont Johnson, and John E. Sowerby
Average review score:

A delight for the senses
From the dust jacket: "This beautifully illustrated book first appeared in 1860 under the illustrator's own imprint...the intention was to produce a volume of reference for the field botanist, the country resident or the summer rambler."

This slightly oversize (8" X 11 1/2") book contains 1,600 varieties, all shown in delicate color illustrations. Included are Latin and common names, description, normal size, habitat, and time of flowering.

This book is truly a delight and will "evoke, perhaps, almost-forgotten days of lost tranquillity."
